There are several differences between the three species Dendrelaphis formosus, Dendrelaphis cyanochloris and Dendrelaphis kopsteini. As these species were frequently misidentified in the past, I want to explain the differences here. The most obvious difference is the colouration. D. kopsteini is red in the front fo the body, the other two species are blue on the skin between the scales.

Dendrelaphis formosus is easy to recognize at its huge eyes. It is astonishing that the males even have larger eyes than the females (see picture). This was unknown up to now.
